Everything on this site exists to help pre-licensed counselors pass the National Counselor Examination (NCE) and the National Clinical Mental Health Counseling Examination (NCMHCE). This page explains who writes it, how it is checked, and what to do if you find a mistake.
Who writes the content
All lessons, practice items, case studies and articles are written and reviewed by Dr. Andrew Wichterman, a licensed professional counselor and counselor educator with 19 years of clinical practice and 15 years teaching in a CACREP-accredited Clinical Mental Health Counseling program. AI tools are used for first drafts of some material, for the narrated overview videos (made with Google NotebookLM) and for drafting practice questions; nothing is published until Dr. Wichterman has reviewed it. Sources
Content is aligned to the current NBCC content outlines for the NCE and NCMHCE and to the DSM-5-TR, the 2014 ACA Code of Ethics, and the primary texts of the theorists covered. Where a claim depends on a specific edition or date, we cite it in the lesson. We do not reproduce copyrighted exam items; every practice item and case on this site is original.
Review and updates
Each lesson shows the month it was last reviewed. Lessons are re-read at least once per exam cycle and whenever NBCC publishes a change to the blueprint or a professional code is revised. Practice items and case studies go through a separate item review before they are published; items that students flag are re-checked within the same review cycle.
Corrections
If you believe something on this site is inaccurate, use the "Report a problem" link at the bottom of any lesson or the contact page. We correct verified errors in place and note substantive changes on the affected page.
Independence and advertising
The Licensure Professor is independent and is not affiliated with or endorsed by NBCC, ACA or any licensing board. The site is free to use. It may display advertising and may carry links to books or tools we recommend; advertisers have no influence over what is taught or how items are keyed.
