Twenty-five items. Twenty minutes. Then you know where to start.

Every candidate has one domain that is quietly costing them points. This short set finds it. You get a score for each of the six NCE domains and the one lesson to open first.

  • ✓Items drawn by exam weight: more from Skills and Clinical Focus, fewer from Attributes, the way the real form is built.
  • ✓Exam conditions: no feedback until the end. Explanations for every item afterward.
  • ✓Your progress is saved on this device if you need to stop and come back.

Items were written for this site in the style of the NCE. None is from the actual exam.

What the six domains weigh

Aligned to the current NCE blueprint. Valid for exams through June 30, 2027.

How to take the baseline and use the result

Take it cold, before you study. The point is to find where you are now, so do not look anything up and do not stop to review between items. The set is 25 items drawn by exam weight, more from Counseling Skills and Areas of Clinical Focus and fewer from Core Counseling Attributes, and there is no feedback until the end. It takes about twenty minutes. If you need to stop, your progress is saved on this device.

Reading your result

You get a score for each of the six domains, the domain to start with, your strongest domain, and the one lesson to open first. Treat the scores as a direction, not a prediction. A domain with two or three items can swing from zero to perfect on a single guess, so a low score in a small domain is a reason to look, not a verdict. The two large domains, with seven or eight items each, tell you more.

A worked example. Say you get 6 of 8 in Counseling Skills, 2 of 7 in Areas of Clinical Focus and 1 of 3 in Ethics. Clinical Focus is the place to start: it is your lowest score and it is 29 percent of the exam. Ethics looks weak too, but three items is a thin sample, so check it with a ten-item practice set in that domain before you change your plans. Every item is explained after you finish, so read the explanations for the ones you missed and the ones you guessed.

The baseline is week 1 of the site's 16-week plan. After it, the plan works through the domains in order, with Form A of the full-length simulation at the end of week 12 and Form B in week 15. To see whether you have improved, use those full-length forms and the domain sets on the practice page rather than retaking this set. A free account saves your result so the progress page can track it. Taking the NCMHCE instead? Use the baseline case.
